A walkway with a view and a challenge
Stretching 2.5km along one of Australia’s most photographed coastlines, the Bondi to Bronte Coastal Walkway needed more than just durability. It required materials that could stand up to relentless salt spray, changing weather, and constant foot traffic, all while blending seamlessly into the natural beauty of the cliffs, rockscape and timber surroundings.
Engineering performance meets coastal design
The section of walkway between Bondi and Bronte demanded a solution that delivered on safety, longevity, and environmental sensitivity. With its harsh marine environment and complex geotechnical conditions, every element had to be carefully considered to meet both aesthetic and structural requirements.
Weldlok was engaged to supply a suite of high-performance products, including FRP Grating, stair treads, and custom aluminium and fibreglass components , all designed and manufactured in compliance with AS1657.
A high-performing product for a high-traffic destination
Weldlok FRP Grating was selected as the primary flooring system for its superior slip resistance and pedestrian-friendly design. The chosen dark grey finish complements the timber surfaces and natural coastal tones, enhancing the walkway rather than competing with it.
Manufactured by interweaving high-strength fibreglass strands and setting them in a highly chemical and flame-resistant resin, Weldlok FRP Grating is engineered specifically for demanding outdoor environments. This makes it the perfect choice for public spaces such as national park walkways and coastal viewing platforms.
Designed for durability, built for the environment
The materials chosen for this project, Weldlok aluminium and FRP products offer exceptional resistance to corrosion and wear. Their lightweight, open-grid profile allows light and water to pass through, protecting native vegetation and supporting sustainable design outcomes.
A lasting solution for a world-class coastal experience
With Weldlok’s engineered flooring and tread systems in place, the Bondi to Bronte walkway continues to provide a safe, comfortable, and visually cohesive experience for the millions of visitors who traverse it each year. The result is a walkway that performs as beautifully as the landscape it sits within built to endure, and built to be enjoyed.
